HIM part ways with Sire/Warner Music
After 6 years and three albums, Finnish rock band HIM and Sire/Warner Music have decided to part ways.
Seymour Stein, founder of Sire Records says: "It was a pleasure working with HIM, and we're very proud to have been their partners for the last six years. Ville is a rare talent, and my relationship with their manager Seppo dates back to the days when he pioneered rock music in Finland looking after the career of Hanoi Rocks. HIM are particularly important because they are the first and only band from Finland to reach Gold status in America. I, along with the entire Sire/Warner Bros. family, wish them continued success in the future."
HIM's discography on Sire includes the 2005 album Dark Light, which reached gold in the US. Follow-up albums Venus Doom (2007) and Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice (2010) charted both in the US and Europe.
"We're ever so grateful for having had Seymour and Co as the generous hosts on our extended first stay in the New Country. It's been a Blast Royale but now it's time to clean up the rubble and start anew", comments Ville Valo of HIM.

HIM is back in rehearsal
Quite a long time complete quiet the audience spent the direction of HIM has been working out new material for quite some time.
Training Session is scheduled to last well into the autumn, after which the band withdraws from the studio.
The band's manager Seppo Vesterinen says Iltalehti that the next studio album "will come out probably in 2012."
HIM is currently without a record company, as the band's deal for the American shop Siren with a over.

Why VILLE VALO was not included in the nominations???
I don't know what happened but even though that VILLE VALO won in category Top Ten Most Romantic Singers he hasn't been nominated for the Teen Choice Awards 2011, for me is a huge scandal.
I think VILLE puts his heart and soul for ages into the music which he create.
VILLE VALO is a versatile artist. For me personally VILLE is the unique and special person in this world with awesome dark, deep, soft voice and great charisma .
VILLE VALO doesn't deserve such a treatment from the American media.
Why VILLE VALO was not included in the nominations, that is the good question?

New Album
Venus DOom was a bit too hard and too long tracks made it lose the stop quickly. Screamworks was a bit too pop/rock for their genre.
They should follow the razorblade, deep shadows and brilliant..., vol 666, and so on albums style, its their image, and maybe redfeny with new instruments. :)

Funny thing, when I ordered the SWRMS album and shirt from the web site I ended up getting the album but not the shirt. I waited and waited for this shirt. All the while I was getting more and more mad with each passing day. Finally after 2 months of not getting the shirt I finally contacted the record label web site and wrote a very wordy email about how angry I was. One of the things that I said was that in my opinion H.I.M. is too good for that label and that I am sure that any self respecting artist would be angry that their fans are not getting what they payed for. Then soon after I read that they have parted ways with that label.
Along with every other H.I.M. fan I keep visiting this web site in hopes to see any news what-so-ever. But every time I visit this web site it seems like a graveyard. I want... I need more H.I.M. For like 6 months after the release of every album that is all that is played in my car. I would love to hear some news. And would be the happiest person in the world to hear that I can listin to some new stuff from H.I.M.

Young Finnish firm attracts sizable investment
Hitlantis wanted to raise 1.5 million dollars but probably could have attracted more.
HITLANTIS, a small start-up based in Helsinki, has closed a deal with angel investors to raise 1.5 million US dollars. The round was over-subscribed, but those investors that missed out on this opportunity may have another soon: the company may raise between four and seven million dollars more this autumn.
Hitlantis offers the music of independent bands via a visually striking interface. The universe of musical content is arrayed around a central hub. Bands are represented as bubbles, with the most popular being large and close to the centre while less popular artists are small and on the fringes. They are grouped by musical category, such as metal, rap or reggae. The largest category is rock, but it also includes many other varieties such as folk, Indian or punk.
The service also has real-time applications: a white circle around a band means that someone is listening to the artist at that moment. Currently the company has about 5,000 bands, 200,000 monthly visitors and its applications have been downloaded almost one million times.
90 per cent to the band
Artists and fans create profiles on Hitlantis, which offers a social networking experience in addition to the music. The popularity of bands, as represented by the size and location of their bubble, comes from the community. Listening to, “liking”, or buying a song improves popularity. When a user becomes a “fan” of a band, popularity also increases.
To purchase songs, fans decide what they are willing to pay. As long as a minimum price is met, 90 per cent goes to the band. Hitlantis also has another revenue stream – selling premium memberships to artists. Currently the premium membership is only five euros per month.
The company behind Hitlantis, Cognitive Maps Ltd, was founded in 2009 by Timo Poijärvi and Petri Kotro. Originally the service was only available on the web, but the company has since launched applications for the iPhone and iPad. An Android version is expected by the end of this summer.
Most of their current business has come from Europe. Hitlantis is now going to Asia via South Korea, and their recent exploratory forays into the United States suggest a push will be made in that market.

The news of the investment was announced from Los Angeles, where co-founder and vice president Poijärvi gave a brief statement.
“This investment from prominent European investors is a critical validation, but even more encouraging has been the response we’ve received while meeting with top brands and media companies in New York, San Francisco and presently Los Angeles,” said Poijärvi. “It’s clear that the future of content discovery has taken a radical – and much needed – leap forward with our advent, and we plan further innovation with our next itineration.”
The investors that participated in this first round of fund-raising include Nokia executives, JSH Capital, Hasan & Partners, PM Ruukki, Rock Island Investment, T&T Enterprises and some unnamed individuals in the media and telecommunication industries.
“Investing in Hitlantis was a meaningful opportunity for us,” says Juha Tynkkynen, CEO of T&T Enterprises. “Their technology solves a major problem in the marketplace. With billions of apps, countless numbers of songs and videos, among other forms of content aimlessly flooding the market every day, we need a compelling and engaging way to filter and discover new content. Clearly the Hitlantis visual browsing platform is that solution, which is already proving itself with music.”
According to reports by Antti Vilpponen at Arctic Startup, the name Hitlantis originated with VILLE VALO, the lead singer of HIM. Poijärvi had wanted VALO to participate in the project, but the singer was prohibited by non-competition clauses in his current contracts.

When they did their concert out here in March 2010 at the Music Box, I had a funny feeling that this was to happen. Not due to the music cuz they kicked ass. There was a comment to the effect of $$ and marketing or videos... something of that nature. And I say Brava to the band for not selling out to the record company for a more mainstream sound. Good luck to them and for us I hope its not forever..

The creativity in the mgmt in the arts is gone... we have an age where people are stealing music and record mgmt keeps making more and more $$ and the shareholders only care about the $$ its only business now, the creativity spark that was allowed by any and all artists is now too limiting. Buying the music isnt enuf...anymore...

I don't understand this whole happening. I don't quite get it. I haven't listened to HIM for awhile because I've been listening to other bands, although HIM remains at constant with being my favorite band I come back to the website to see if there's any new news with the band, new recordings, what not, and I see they part ways with there label and they're not a band technically? Or a signed band, any who...
